New Opportunities to Pump Up the Volume photo

We have one more month of summer until it will be time to prepare for the High Holy Days. We will celebrate Erev Rosh Hashanah on September 20th, so we have from now until then to pump up the volume on providing referrals to your fellow JNET members and to go the extra mile to provide the greatest service to those with whom you conduct business. Also, take advantage of many new opportunities available for you at JNET, including JNET's networking workshop, and the new developments described below.

Bel Air and Tarzana PM Merge
The Bel Air and Tarzana PM chapters are merging. We would like to thank the leadership at Stephen Wise Temple for hosting us, and we plan to continue our relationship, should we wish to host mixers or workshops there in the future. When we first opened that chapter, we had no presence on the Westside. It was our first foothold south of the Sepulveda Pass. And, having the Bel Air chapter was significant in helping JNET catapult into other Westside neighborhoods. With the establishment of those Westside chapters, and the waning attendance at Bel Air meetings due to the location, traffic patterns and scheduling challenges at the temple, JNET has decided to merge the Bel Air chapter with Tarzana PM. The leadership teams are a good fit and we expect the combined chapter will continue to grow.

The leadership team for the combined chapter exhibits experience, strength, and positive energy! Please make it a point to attend the next meeting on Wednesday, August 23rd and join me in congratulating the starting line-up of volunteers who are stepping up to the plate to provide a great JNET meeting experience: President Asher Levin and Vice President Sandy Rosenholz, along with Zeda Spiegel, Jeffrey Davidson, Marlene Harrison, Tatiana Davidov, Gail Salem, Debbie Nierenberg, Richard Cassel, Larry Estrin, Eric Itelman, Maury Gomberg, Sherry Warschaw, and Michael Starr. New Format at Tarzana AM
Among other new opportunities at JNET, the Tarzana AM chapter meetings are shifting to a business roundtable format, something the chapter has been experimenting with for several months with great success. The more intimate setting and interactive nature of the meetings promotes dialogue on best practices in business and allows attendees to share how common business challenges have been successfully resolved. The 30-second introductions, Raves and Reviews, and JNET Connect remain part of the revised chapter format. Speakers will be incorporated into the format by request.

Multiple JNET Memberships
Can a person have more than one membership in JNET? Yes! If a person has more than one business, they can purchase multiple JNET memberships to represent each line of business. They must pay the full annual dues for each business and will have the right to give one 30-second introduction for each membership they hold at the meetings they attend. They can also give two 10-minute presentations per year for each membership they hold. As always, members who hold only one membership but have multiple businesses will only be allowed to talk about the business for which they have a membership.

Applying Rabbinic Wisdom to Assessing Your Business

Personal Growth illustration

It's not easy both climbing the tree and tending to the soil below. Yet, it's critical. As summer winds down, take some time to assess how, in the coming year, you can improve your business dealings and relationships holistically - from the inside out.

We're always fine-tuning our external marketing efforts, sales strategy, business connections, and so forth. Yet, we all have internal mechanisms that need fine-tuning, too. Our principles and intentions drive our behaviors, and, in turn, our successes. It is important to check in with ourselves from time to time to cultivate the foundation from which we advance, expand, and excel.

JNET's Rabbi Series is honored to have words of wisdom from Sinai Temple’s distinguished rabbis on topics that, with practice, can encourage what's best in us to emerge. Set aside a few minutes to gain insight from these special teachings:

New JNET Leaders

We are excited to announce several new leaders, who joined JNET's Board and chapter leadership this summer, bringing their wealth of talent and expertise to JNET.

JNET welcomes two new Board members:

Jackson Schwartz, Associate Vice President and Financial Advisor at Morgan Stanley, brings to the Board his specialized knowledge and experience that will keep us moving forward with our professionalism and service to our members.

Josh Lampel, a Residential Mortgage Loan Officer of Skyline Home Loans brings to the Board his experience in client consulting and working to get optimum results, and we are excited to have him join the Board.

JNET also welcomes two new Chapter Presidents:

Nancy Spear, of Nancy's Tech Help for Older Adults, brings to JNET her tremendous knowledge and experience in advising and supporting others, including as a JNET Mentor for many years. JNET is very excited to have Nancy leading the JNET Culver City chapter.

Joel Wolk, of Keller Williams, brings to meetings his skilled leadership - and good humor. We are delighted to have Joel leading the JNET Thousand Oaks chapter.

JNET cannot express enough its gratitude for the many years of service and guidance given by outgoing presidents Prissi Cohen of JNET Culver City and Steve Marche of JNET Thousand Oaks. Thank you for everything you have done to guide and grow these chapters over the years.

JNET in the News

JNET’s “How Jews Schmooze” ad will appear in the September 8 issue of the Jewish Journal. We have had great response to our ad, which continues to help us build our membership as well as our recognition in the community. We are grateful to JNET Board Member Judy Robitschek of robi-chex graphic designplus signproduction who designed this eye-catching advertisement.

Involvement Opportunities

Volunteering is the best way to develop deeper relationships, get known by JNET’s leaders and members and strengthen personal and business connections. Please consider lending a little of your time, energy and expertise to the growth and success of JNET by taking one of the chapter positions available or considering what you can contribute to our organization on the committee or Board level. You can assist with PR or the functionality of our website, help chapters fill their speaker slots, be on the Social Committee and help plan our mixers—or fill a void that is yet to be discovered.

If you are interested in serving on a JNET committee, please contact Judi Lirman, Chair of the Nominating Committee, at 818-939-7098 or JudiMFT@gmail.com.

Speaker Opportunities

Under JNET's rules and regulations, members can speak at a chapter meeting twice a year (every 181 days) but not at the same chapter in the same calendar year. In the past, JNET’s Board of Directors has given special dispensation to new and smaller chapters that are enthusiastic about growing their membership but are meeting with some obstacles in getting speakers to sign up. The Board is allowing them to have members speak without breaking the two-time speaking rule. The Board is giving this dispensation to the JNET South Bay, Tarzana AM, and Thousand Oaks chapters for a period of six months in the 2017 calendar year. For more information, contact JNET South Bay President Eran Conforty at 917-349-1695 or econforty@gmail.com, Tarzana AM President Phil Blum at 323-823-2479 or pblum@financialguide.com or Thousand Oaks President Joel Wolk at 805-931-6683 or joelalanwolk@gmail.com.

If you have any other questions, please contact Judi Lirman, JNET Vice Chair, at 818-939-7098 or JudiMFT@gmail.com.
