Speak Up!

A few months ago, I encouraged you to sign up to speak at one of our many JNET chapters to take advantage of the core purpose of being a member of JNET—networking with other professional Jewish men and women to form relationships that will increase your business and provide you with resources for your personal and business needs.

Several members told me that they are uncomfortable speaking in front of large groups of people; whether for 30 seconds or 10 minutes. I get that! And that is the advantage of having so many chapters to choose from. Our smaller chapters are warm and inviting, less intimidating, AND still give you the chance to tell people who you are and how they can help and do business with you.

I would argue that you can get a better result from making a good impression on a small, attentive group of 15 or 20 JNET members than in a hustling and bustling room of 85 members.

Our larger chapters exude energy. There is milling and schmoozing before the meeting, numerous raves and reviews, and a greater sense of the larger picture of why JNET was formed. The room is full of Jewish business people who are there to receive your support and give you their support in return.

Each JNET chapter is different in size and culture. Large or small, a meeting's leadership team and setting will set the tone for your experience. There is something for everyone. I only hope that you will take the opportunity to find the meetings that are comfortable and productive for you, and sign up to be a speaker!

If you are interested in becoming more involved with your chapter or JNET's overall leadership, please email me: jackie@tastymagic.com. I would love to hear from you.

New This Month
Sinai Temple Rabbis photo of Wolpe, Sherman, and Guzik

JNET's From the Rabbi Series Trio!

Each Friday this month, get valuable advice on improving how you do business from three distinguished rabbis of Sinai Temple, affiliated with JNET Westwood. JNET is honored to have Rabbis Wolpe, Sherman, and Guzik share their words of wisdom to help us perform better--both inside and out.

Tune in to the JNET website each Friday for a fresh rabbinic perspective on doing business, citing references of Jewish traditions and religious principles.

Visit the Rabbi Series page, and then continue the conversation on JNET's Facebook and LinkedIn pages. Be sure to share with friends and colleagues this special opportunity to become an even better businessperson!

Networking Workshops - FREE to Members!

JNET launched in May a special program to help new and existing members improve their relationships and become better fellow networkers, thereby enhancing their business at JNET. Entitled "Schmoozing with a Purpose," these special networking workshops are held in small-group settings for more individualized attention.

Here are just some of the areas JNET workshops will help you improve in:

  • Identifying your networking goals
  • Crafting that winning 30-second commercial speech
  • Making and receiving good referrals
  • Maximizing your exposure to the other JNET members

Enjoy supportive discussions, receive valuable feedback from fellow participants, and get useful tips from a brief presentation on marketing for your business.

Successful workshops have already been facilitated and will continue in the West Valley by Max Izenberg, Dalia Hayon, and Jackson Schwartz. Additional meetings are scheduled with Eric Oxenberg facilitating on the West Side. Workshops are free to members, and $10 for guests who are considering joining JNET. Contact Membership Co-Chairs Dalia Hayon, dalia@daliahayon.com, and Max Izenberg, max-2223@hotmail.com, for more information and to sign up!

JNET’s involvement in the Celebrate Israel Festival and "On the Map" movie screening brought a great deal of exposure to JNET as a networking organization. Thank you to everyone who volunteered and helped with setting up our participation in these events.

Celebrate Israel Festival

JNET had a great turnout at its booth, and more people asked for information about JNET this year than ever before! Thank you to all JNET members who volunteered their time to help us make our participation in the Celebrate Israel Festival successful. Special thanks to JNET Program Chair Jennifer Maraia, and Membership Co-Chairs Dalia Hayon and Max Izenberg for their help in setting up the booth, and to JNET PR/Communications Committee member Judy Robitschek for her beautiful graphics that adorned our banners and promotional items.

"On the Map" Screening

new website image

This incredible event, co-hosted by JNET and Sinai Temple, received raves from all. Following the delicious dinner and screening, the entire audience of 120 attendees gave the film a standing ovation.

Rabbi Sherman moderated a very informative Director's Q&A session with two-time Israeli Oscar Winner Dani Menkin, who gave the audience great insight as to why this victory for the 1977 European Basketball Championship was so monumental!

Special thanks to JNET Westwood President Barry Sikov, the event MC, for organizing and leading this special event, to JNET member Alan Altschul for proposing and supporting the event throughout, and to JNET Administrator Rachael Payne for stepping up to ensure the event was publicized and executed well.

JNET in the News

  • JNET’s “How Jews Schmooze” ad appeared in the May 12 edition of the Jewish Journal. We have had great response to our ad, which continues to help us build our membership as well as our recognition in the community. The ad will appear again in the June, September and November issues. We are grateful to JNET Board Member Judy Robitschek of robi-chex graphic design + production who designed this eye-catching advertisement.

Involvement Opportunities

Volunteering is the best way to develop deeper relationships, get known by JNET’s leaders and members and strengthen personal and business connections. Please consider lending a little of your time, energy and expertise to the growth and success of JNET by taking one of the chapter positions available or considering what you can contribute to our organization on the committee or Board level. You can assist with PR or the functionality of our website, help chapters fill their speaker slots, be on the Social Committee and help plan our mixers—or fill a void that is yet to be discovered.

The Thousand Oaks and Westwood chapters are still in need of a Public Relations/Eblast Coordinator. The position involves adding meetings to the online Calendar, creating flyers, emailing meeting notifications, and posting information on social media and online bulletin boards. No previous PR experience is necessary, though good writing, computer skills and attention to detail are a must. Training will be provided. For more information, contact JNET Thousand Oaks President Steve Marche at 805-374-6000 or ThousandOaks@jnetonline.org or JNET Westwood President Barry Sikov at 310-476-9720 or Westwood@jnetonline.org.

If you are interested in serving on a JNET committee, please contact Judi Lirman, Chair of the Nominating Committee, at 818-939-7098 or JudiMFT@gmail.com.

Speaker Opportunities

Under JNET's rules and regulations, members can speak at a chapter meeting twice a year (every 181 days) but not at the same chapter in the same calendar year. In the past, JNET’s Board of Directors has given special dispensation to new and smaller chapters, that are enthusiastic about growing their membership but are meeting with some obstacles in getting speakers to sign up. The Board is allowing them to have members speak without breaking the two-time speaking rule. The Board is giving this dispensation to the JNET South Bay, Tarzana AM, and Thousand Oaks chapters for a period of six months in the 2017 calendar year. For more information, contact JNET South Bay President Eran Conforty at 917-349-1695 or econforty@gmail.com, Tarzana AM President Phil Blum at 323-823-2479 or pblum@financialguide.com or Thousand Oaks President Steve Marche at 805-374-6000 or ThousandOaks@jnetonline.org.

If you have any other questions, please contact Judi Lirman, JNET Vice Chair, at 818-939-7098 or JudiMFT@gmail.com.
